HCEC Scholarship Program

Houston County Electric Cooperative
Dorothy H. Goodrum Scholarship Program

Each year, Houston County Electric Cooperative awards ten $1,000 scholarships to area high school seniors.  The scholarships are given in the name of Dorothy H. Goodrum, a cooperative board member from 1988 through 2004.  Mrs. Goodrum served the members of the cooperative in many board positions, including board president.

These scholarship awards are made possible by the use of unclaimed capital credit funds  that have been returned by the State of Texas each year.  Using these funds, HCEC has been able to support higher education for the children of cooperative members.  The number of scholarships and the amount awarded could vary annually based on the unclaimed capital credit payments for that year.

A senior is eligible if his or her parents or legal guardians are active Houston County Electric Cooperative members whose permanent residence receives power from the cooperative.  Scholarship awards are given based on community involvement, academic success, leadership, and achievements.

Scholarship applications are now available for download.  Applications must be postmarked no later than February 3, 2012.  All applications must be returned to the cooperative in a sealed envelope; follow all instructions carefully.
